AUSTRALIA / EDUCATION

Reaching Healthcare Professionals with Online Education

Galderma supports ‘All About Acne’, an independent information resource about acne and acne treatment  This not-for-profit group of medical professionals from across Australia volunteer their time and expertise to bring the most up-to-date information on acne to both healthcare professionals and the public.

To assist All About Acne with their ambition to provide education to healthcare professionals about acne and acne treatment, Galderma provided an education grant to develop and host an acne module on mdBriefCase. mdBriefCase provides online, accredited medical education to healthcare professionals. This popular service is free of charge to its users and is supported by advertising and partnerships. Physicians, specialists and pharmacists can extend their medical education without any cost.

Within the certified module, ‘The treatment and care of patients with acne’ healthcare professionals receive dermatological training on acne treatment and it enables them to earn points that are officially recognized as contributing to their Continuing Medical Education.

Online education is an increasingly valuable tool for time-poor healthcare professionals. Acne turned out to be a very useful topic to generate interest from General Practitioners. The outcome of Galderma’s support is that more doctors better understand the therapies available for acne and their place in treatment, and this in turn supports All About Acne in their mission to provide education to healthcare professionals  The ambition is for 1,250 doctors to complete the online module; after 6 months it has already been taken by 1000 practitioners. This program meets the criteria for the Continuing Medical Education requirements that GPs must achieve. The high completion rates indicate that acne is an area of high interest and there is a demand for this training. For the GPs who have completed the module, there has been a significant change in how they would approach their acne treatment. The benefits of this project are that the physicians better understand the best practice treatment of acne, which in turn ensures that patients have the best possible treatment.
