HONG KONG / EDUCATION

The Hong Kong Medical Association Certificate Course on Dermatology

The Hong Kong Medical Association (HKMA) is a professional organization that improves standards of medical practice in Hong Kong since 1920. It fosters friendly relations between registered doctors in Hong Kong. Its main activities include organizing continuous medical education (CME) meetings and communities for doctors. It also supports orchestras and sports teams, as well as providing community services for the public.

The project consists of a series of CME lectures in dermatology given by dermatologists to general practitioners, with the goal of enhancing medical knowledge of dermatological diseases and best practice. Galderma supports this initiative which in turn strengthens bonds between dermatologists and general practitioners. Galderma sponsored the HKMA ‘Certificate Course on Dermatology’ in January and February 2010 through to April 2011, at the Professional Education Centre of the Chinese Club building. Topics included recent advances in acne research, eczema treatments, nail disorders, common skin infections, cosmetic dermatology and follicular lesions.

The six dermatologists who supported the program and gave lectures included Dr. Henry Chan, Dr. Wong Sai Siong and Dr. Kingsley Chan. Lectures were well-attended, with around 100 practitioners for every session. This is a win-win initiative that seals the relationship among dermatologists (the speakers), General Practitioners (the audience), and the medical association (the organizer). Finally the general practitioners who attended gained up-to-date knowledge of skin diseases, enabling patients to receive the proper treatment for their skin condition.
